Who is the Tile Lady?
Debby Parker thinks the name of her business is "probably kind of silly," but it seemed the obvious choice after so many years of hearing her customers' kids answer the door and yell, "MOM, THE TILE LADY'S HERE!"

The name fits, so Parker's wearing it. Since 1994, she has run her own business cleaning and re-grouting dingy ceramic tile and natural stone in residential kitchens & bathrooms. By reviving the beauty of old tile, she helps homeowners avoid the considerable cost of replacement.

"Often times people are not told how to take care of their tiles," says Parker, who, before starting The Tile Lady Company, worked several years as a tile finisher for various contractors cleaning and grouting tile after it was laid. "All too often," she says, "tile layers would install new tile in a home without offering any maintenance tips."

"A lot of people clean marble with vinegar or use bleach on their grout, but those things are bad," she says. "Or they'll put on the wrong sealer, which is expensive to strip off. Usually people I've met have spent too much money on the wrong things."

"A lot of contractors won't do this little (cleaning and repair) stuff, because they can't make enough money or they don't know how. They just know how to lay new tile.
